What You'll Need
- A computer with Windows 10/11, Mac, or Linux
- At least 8GB of RAM (16GB recommended)
- A graphics card that supports DirectX 11 or 12
- About 20GB of free storage space
Step-by-Step Installation
Step 1: Create an Epic Games Account
- Go to www.epicgames.com
- Click "Sign In" in the top right corner
- Click "Sign Up" to create a new account
- Fill in your information (you may need a parent's help)
- Verify your email address
Step 2: Download Epic Games Launcher
- Visit www.unrealengine.com
- Click "Download Now" button
- Download the Epic Games Launcher installer
- Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions
- Sign in with your Epic Games account
Step 3: Install Unreal Engine 5
- Open the Epic Games Launcher
- Click on the "Unreal Engine" tab at the top
- Click the "Install Engine" button
- Choose a location to install (make sure you have enough space!)
- Select "Unreal Engine 5.0" or the latest version
- Click "Install" and wait for it to download (this may take 30-60 minutes)
Step 4: Verify Installation
- Once installed, you should see "Launch" button next to Unreal Engine 5
- Click "Launch" to test that everything works
- If it opens successfully, you're ready to go! 🎉
Troubleshooting
Installation is slow? This is normal! UE5 is a large program (about 20GB)
Can't find the launcher? Check your Downloads folder or Desktop
